What are switch case and if-else statements?

Let’s consider the following situation – you’re trying to create a calculator which takes some inputs and releases an output based on what you enter.
You want to, therefore, consider the cases when someone presses on +, or -, or /, or *.
So, will you use if else or switch?

Switch is used in the following manner :-

switch(variable) {
case 1:
\\\code will do this
break; *pause.
case 2:
\\\\what to do?
break;
}

but what does this do?
To understand more about switch, we must learn more about its counterpart: if-else

This is a classic if-else example. If the variable “hour” is less than 18, the output will be “good day”, else it will be “good evening”.

Here’s another example :-

In this program, we first specify the class, that is, a template on which we work. Then, the 3rd line tells the Javascript machine to run; public gives access to the Javascript virtual machine to run the program, void tells the machine that it doesn’t need to print anything unnecessarily, while it takes an input in the form of strings.
Then, we say that if this happens (whatever you type), it will display “Happy new year” after what you’ve typed in as input.

For example, if you run it with
java IfElse one two three
output- 

threeHappy New Year

Let’s discuss switch case statements. They help reduce syntax, and are much easier for the java compiler to run.
Syntax-

switch (expression) { //the value of variable “Expression” can be changed
case value1:
// Code block for value1
break; // Optional but recommended to prevent fall-through
case value2:
// Code block for value2
break;
…
default:
// Code block for when no case matches
break;
}

They’re basically if else statements, but they’re easier to write, saving time.

Also, they run faster. The java machine, during switch, evaluates a certain expression, which matches up with a particular output it will give. It, therefore, creates a “jump table” . This is a table in which each case corresponds to an output which the machine will give. The program then jumps to the place where the particular case is situated, and executes it.

Meanwhile, in if-else, the machine manually checks all cases. For example, it checks whether the computer has stored the value of 1+2 as 1,2, or 3, and so on until it gets an output. If a certain condition is met, it will execute a case. Else, it will move on to the next.
Therefore, it now can easily be seen why when statements / switch case statements are faster,
