WHY DO WE SLEEP?

Well, it’s obvious. Your body needs a break from what it’s been doing lately, so you need to rest.
It helps maintain your physical health, and helps support growth for children.
STEPS OF SLEEP??

Well, there are different phases of sleep :-
- The transition phase- Your body is beginning to relax (breathing slows down)
- Light sleep- You’re cold, and breathing slowly
- Deep sleep- This is when your body is healing itself. A notable feature is the delta waves, which are the waves in your brain. They’re slow, but very effective at healing. This is the time of peak relaxation.
- REM- Short form for Rapid Eye movement, this is when you dream and your eyes move. Your brain is awake.
DREAMS

They are, sort of, rewinds. They are a replay of past events. They, therefore, help us prepare for anything (apart from tests, of course :). For example, your brain might get you to practice escaping a tiger which is trying to chase you down. So, they’re helpful
But why dream?

A theory says that we evolved to dream to practice using our senses. While sleeping, the neurons in you eye need much less attention. This means danger because if this happens, the brain can “rewire” itself to strengthen the other sense organs while weakening the eyes.
Dreams are a way to get rid of this problem.
They help keep the region for visual reception in our brain more active.
